last post. what i got

* Where did you begin in this journey into Web 2.0?
* What kinds of ah-ha's, OH NO's, oh-my's, and eureka's! did you experience?
* Where are you now as a techno-learner? What did you learn about yourself as a learner?
* What do you see in your future, for instance, your next class, your career goals, your next skill?
* What you want to learn more of, what you hope never to have to do again?
* Last chance to get it all out.

I didn't start with much knowledge in this subject. I mean don't get me wrong I was facing in the right direction but I must admit I have totally under utilized the web and multimedia thus far. I see way more use in the multimedia realm in my days to come because I have plans to market and sell things via internet. I've learned enough in this course, and in conjunction with my business related courses to propel myself into wealth! I'd really like to grant myself a little more patience for the web however. Sometimes I find that I give up easily in this area if it doesn't stimulate my interest right on cue. I must admit, I HOPE TO NEVER open as many online accounts for various websites in a 4 month duration as I did in this course. However I see the good in all of them. lol

I really did enjoy this class, and Prof. Brooks has done such a nice job of making the course friendly and at time hilarious. Good luck to everyone, I hope you find your way in this life.

Lorin. :)

Week 1 blog: Whoops =x

Well I had definitely planned to learn about effective social networking, and I got a decent dose of that!! I have had an obligatory participation in social networks as a teenager so it isn't completely foreign to me.. however I had certainly been developing a disinterest for social networking. this class put me back on that track with a mild appreciation for it as well. And so this semester has been my first interaction with blogging.. I completely appreciate it. I had always known about blogs but I get why people utilize them now. What a great way to put your opinions out there! And in return, people will comment, and you can further your opinions on the matter from there.. I just see it as totally useful now. I've gathered quite a bit about the net from this course.

facebook vs. fortune 500

I'm not entirely proud to be considered the facebook generation, but maybe that will change one day...

Gary Hamel brings up some really interesting points about the social "DNA" of generation F. It makes me wonder exactly how profound an effect this facebook movement will have on the human conscience ? over time, could this social dependence translate, genetically?

it was an alright read!

Longggggg Trail

I can completely relate to this blog because I rarely find myself participating in things that are "mainstream". With maybe the exception of The Office!

Particularly in the music realm, I like what Michael Robertson of MP3.com had accomplished with his website. By singling out artists and directing their tracks to the listener, a new age of music has been born. I can relate to this because as a small time recording artist I don't have a record label or someone to mainline me! It is pioneers like Michael Robertson that bring the talent out from the shadows.

A lot of highly qualified musicians are out there, completely unknown because they aren't marketed by some label, and don't specialize in marketing for themselves.

I could go on! The way that the internet and search options are bringing new things to the surface is really changing the way I find new interests and manifest my new experiences.. Heck, it has already greatly diversified my itunes!!!

Small Tour ...

Well, I got pretty wet when filming and had to stop. Pretty lame video but it's all I could manage with such a shifty internet connection. I don't expect comments, hopefully if anything else it was worth a small laugh..

I tried to jump back over the dam and fell in... saved the camera though.. lol

DOH!

First Vlog!

So here is my first ever, howto vlog.  I go over some really basic pointers for safely using a pressure cooker.  Sorry about the duration of the video, I wanted it to be shorter, but I thought it would in inconsiderate to skimp on anything since the process is potentially hazardous..  Judge me if you'd like!  Enjoy :)

"Ummmmm" hahahah

presentation magician

Through great visual-graphic representation he was able to exemplify what he was talking about.  I really enjoyed the graphs because it allows the viewer to understand exactly what he is trying to put across...

It would probably be easier to model off of his presentation, he did a great job!

kindle-swindle

I don't think that it's right for kindle to offer the product with the intention of "new and improved multimedia", if they aren't compensating those with the audio rights.  The entire point of a 'book on tape', at least from a business standpoint, is to sell the rights to listen that piece of audio.  Kindle is getting away with a little more than it should, but it's really not a big deal, because it's in the spot light already, and as the link mentions, apps already exist in which your mobile device will narrate for you.  Sounds like a slap on the wrist for kindle, and the life-line beeping of the books on audio industry..

Copyright issues: it goes on!

Mr. Fairey's creative picture surely does violate copyright infringement in my opinion.  I mean sure he invested time and artistic ability in the picture, but the implications of the photograph itself speak much deeper.  Not just anyone can take a picture of the presidential elect in that distance range, with a high quality camera, and probably a licensee to photograph and distribute.

What Fairey did to that photograph was so simple that I'm sure a computer wizz could recreate it with a free-licensed, run of the line photo editing software program.  I don't think his work constitutes fair use, however there is no doubt in my mind that it got President Obama elected into office by some token.  I mean every window in every dorm had this picture facing outward!  I don't know if there's such a thing as a legal exception, but I'm sure this one would qualify!?

Maybe Mannie Garcia didn't mind?

Here is my sister Genevieve..  She's running for student council something, maybe this will get her elected?  I took the photo to begin with, so no legal fees to come.

Creative Arts in the cloud

Sorry for the late post.  Anyway, I really do foresee a transformation in art in the digital realm creeping up on us.  I don't own an iphone but plenty of friends that do have let me tinker with the vast applications they have.  You can take pictures and even super impose faces or things within the pictures; right on the phone.  It is amazing what can be done with a 2" x 3" rectangular electronic device.  It is actually mind boggling.  My favorite aspect of art in the digital realm is the utilities and applications that allow you to free hand draw, in digital form.  I mean obviously these utilities lack serious detail, but I am sure over time, it will be possible to "paint" a complete picture via digital format.  Only time will tell!  The nice thing about art in the cloud; is unlike other things, I don't feel that it is a threat to the old styles and traditions of art; as opposed to the threat of physical communication, posed by the cloud.  I definitely want to get a digital sketch pad, that hooks up via USB!  Awesome!

Kevin Kelly's interpretation

Man that was a long video!  http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks /kevin_kelly_on_the_next_5_000_days_of_the_web.html

This man has a really in depth interpretation of how the internet is moving with us and growing around us.  The way he draws an analogy of the internet to brain synapses is very interesting.  I can't claim that he enlightened me completely, but the way in which he compares the internet really creates a more relatable way of viewing it.  Kelly explains how the internet is continually filling in the cracks, but I must admit some of his assertions are creepy, realistically so.  The dependence he suggests is being created and reinforced every second of every day is really an uncomfortable concept, mostly because I can sense it within myself.  But largely because I just watched the terminator series.... heh

"The first person to buy a fax machine was an idiot"... Straight forward and true hhahhaha

My presence in the Cloud

Most of my presence in the cloud is based around the forum environment.  Whatever my interests at the moment be, I belong to a forum pertaining to that.  That is the great thing about forums, if you have an interest, you better believe there is a forum about it!  It is incredible what you can learn from people who already know a little bit more than you..  Aside from that, I spend a lot of time searching for items I desire on craigslist, and selling items on craigslist.  I use the cloud as a platform to find new artists to listen to.  The cloud has shaped my interest and taste in music almost exclusively at this point.  I do spend some time on facebook, but not much, I have some unexplained discontent for the site.....

But that is me, in the "cloud"!

Sharing Music

Do you consider sharing music, in some cases, stealing music?
